Application
Production of high specification electric fryers had been transferred to the UK from Italy. Historically, the units had been inadequately packed, and with individual transit packs for each of four products in the range, packaging costs were unacceptably high. Shipping is mostly by road, anywhere in Europe.
The brief was to deliver increased levels of protection to these quality products, whilst reducing freight charges, cutting inventory costs and making savings in the packaging budget.
Solution
Macfarlane came up with a design using a folding case made from heavy duty corrugated board. This significantly reduced the pack weight, and a series of die-cut polyethylene foam inserts provide high performance protection of all four sizes of fryer. All cases are pre-printed for greater brand visibility.
Results
After extensive trials, the new design was introduced with excellent results:
- Reduced inventory costs and storage space due to pack rationalisation
- Increased levels of protection from high performance materials reducing damage.
- Reduced pack weight helps minimise freight costs.
- Materials readily recycled.
The customer has experienced superior levels of protection reducing damage for its market-leading products, plus the bonus of considerable savings thanks to a thorough re-think of its transit pack design.
